This circa 1981 Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 16753 combines the functionality of Rolex’s original aviation watch with the warmth of stainless steel and 18k yellow gold. Unlike the later GMT-Master II, the Ref. 16753 belongs to the original GMT-Master collection and is prized for its classic proportions, acrylic crystal, and distinctly vintage appearance.
This example features a black dial with raised yellow-gold hour markers commonly known as a “nipple dial.” The dial is complemented by gold hands, a red GMT hand, and a black 24-hour aluminum bezel insert. Its 40 mm stainless steel Oyster case is accented by an 18k yellow-gold bezel and winding crown.
Powering the watch is the Rolex Caliber 3075 automatic movement, which introduced a convenient quickset date function. The 24-hour hand remains synchronized with the main hour hand and works with the bidirectional rotating bezel to display a second time zone.
The watch is fitted with a two-tone Rolex Oyster bracelet constructed from stainless steel and 18k yellow gold. It is in approximately 7/10 vintage condition, with visible wear consistent with its age. A Rolex presentation box is included, but the original papers are not present.
